Perhaps the most frustrating split in the pro-life movement is organizational resistance to equal protection laws. As we’ve seen in Missouri, the recent political dividing lines resulted in certain pro-life organizations siding with Planned Parenthood. This letter was published by the National Right To Life (NRLC) and signed by a number of other organizations in an attempt to stop states from criminalizing the act of abortion. But can someone truly be pro-life without being anti-murder? The theology that forms the political stance on abortion is clear: elective abortion is a form of homicide. If we are unwilling to treat it as such, we stray from the very theology that informs our pro-life views. As seen in Missouri, the recent failure of the equal protection bill is a direct result of Christian organizations attempting to make abortion a perpetrator-less crime, disconnecting their pro-life views from their theology.
If you believe that abortion is murder, perhaps you should avoid the pro-life organizations that supported this letter and find one that more accurately reflects your views.
